Stylin Compliments

They say most women don’t know how to receive a compliment, and I am no exception. If someone tells me I’m looking thinner, I shake my head and refute it by saying, “Actually, I’ve gained 3 pounds…” If they tell me my hair looks luscious and luxurious, I roll my eyes and moan, “Ohhhh, it’s way too long. I haven’t gotten it cut in ages and it’s driving me nuts!” But for real, it is.

Why do we do this? Is it so hard to have someone tell you something nice?

Well, I have the pleasure of telling you that I, yes I, have been the recipient of some very awesome compliments in the past few weeks. And I’m going to accept them with grace and grandeur! [insert awkward curtsey here]

First up, my cyber friend Mollie from OK in UK bestowed me with a Stylish Blogger Award. Mollie is an American living abroad with her husband and three year old. We’re both members of Studio 30 Plus and were both featured on their weekend spotlight a couple of weeks ago. It was love at first sight as her page loaded (’cause remember, I’m obsessed with all things British — #15 for those of you who are impatient), and then I discovered that she is hilariously witty and intelligent. Read her Love Letter to Tesco’s Christmas Scottish All-Butter Shortbread Selection. Hilarious, and I think I just got fatter. We have a cross Atlantic bloggy love affair going on, and if she doesn’t get on the Twitter soon, I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself.

Second, my bloggy friend Kelly from Dances with Chaos also bestowed me with a Stylish Blogger Award. I have had the pleasure of meeting Kelley in real life at a monthly girls’ night out we have with some local bloggers. I took full advantage of the night out and put on some nice duds (read: something without food encrusted on it), so she may actually be fooled into thinking I am somewhat stylish. Kelly is a very talented writer who weaves her words beautifully and makes me feel better about the chaos in my own life, since I sometimes mistakingly think that moms who had one kid at a time have it so much easier than I do. Kelly embraces the crazy with her hilarious “What the Frak?” moments. She’s also a member of The Red Dress Club (me too, but I haven’t had the time or the guts to take part in an assignment) and posts her beautiful writing assignments on her other blog, Writing with Chaos. She’s muy talented!

Thanks ladies for the lovely awards! Now I’m supposed to do something like tell you all four lies and a truth or seven random things about myself or do something that sounds an awful lot like work. PLUS, I’ve already told y’all 25 things about myself that you never wanted to know, and I’m a horrible liar anyway. So I think I’ll skip that and just pass on the awesome instead.

But wait! There’s more!

I got a super lovely comment the other day from Sue over at The Desperate House Mommy. The part that I loved said, and I quote, “Good to finally ‘meet’ you…have heard tell of you through the blogosphere…”

Excuse me? This gave me super warm fuzzies. I’ve only been putting my blog “out there” and trying to gain more readership (aside from the lovely friends and family who have always been my faithful readers) for a couple of months now. There’s lots of bloggers that I hear about, read, and engage with, and to hear that there’s someone out there talking about me in the big, bad blogosphere? I feel all big time. Unless those someones were saying something like “Steer clear of that chick @latorres from The Twin Spin. She’s effing crazy, yo.” Then I’d rather not know.

OK, so without further ado, I herefore pass on the Stylish Blogger Award to….how many people? I don’t know. These memes procreate like bunnies, and it seems like everyone has one. So if you get one, yay! If you don’t, then yay! Know that I love you and your blog, but less work for you!

So that’s four, and I’m stopping there because I’m tired, and my baby is sick, and she’s likely to be up all night because unlike most people, she can’t sleep when she’s sick. For the newly coined Stylish Bloggers, there’s some rules like pass on the love to some other peeps and give recognition to the person who dubbed you oh so stylish (*ahem*). But I’ll love you no matter what!
