It’s spring break, and SXSW (SXSW Interactive, SXSW Film, SXSW Music, SXSW Gaming Expo, SXSW Create, SXSW OMGtheresmore???) is here, which means there’s a ton of fun events around town, and only about 1/4 the parking spots available for the amount of people expected to each event. Oh, South-by, such a love/hate relationship.
That being said, each year I promise myself I will venture out to some SXSW events (free ones, because holy shit, it’s expensive), and then every year my introversion and lack of desire to take 3 kids to crowded places wins out.
There’s a super cool family rock show going on this Thursday, March 13 from 10 am – 12 pm at the Fader Fort (1101 E. 5th Street). YOU WHO is a fundraiser for the Children’s Cancer Association’s online music program, MyMusicRx, and will feature bands Typhoon, Aloe Blacc, Les Claypool, The Bots, Peelander Z, Arc Iris, and the Youngblood Brass Band. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door, and kids get in free. And 100% of all proceeds will help deliver music medicine to cancer kids everywhere. Cool, huh?
My teacher friend Sarah from This Here Now wrote a wonderful post about speaking up if you feel your child is too burdened by schoolwork. I feel lucky that our homework experience so far has been mild. Still wish they didn’t have any though.
I know. I KNOW. I still can’t stop taking the quizzes. I mean, one told me that the alcoholic beverage I was meant to be was indeed A BEER. How do they know this stuff???
“This abstract performance art called Family Life is our one run at the ultimate improv…our chance to be great for someone, to give another person everything they need to be happy.” A perspective on parenthood.
That’s about all I got today, folks. Stay safe, stay sweet, or even stay away from SXSW if you like. I’ll be huddling in my north Austin home most of the week.
